Ithaca College has named Keith “Mac” McIntosh, a proven leader with more than three decades of experience in the field, as its new associate vice president for information technology services and chief information officer. He succeeds Ed Fuller, who retired this past January, and will start at the college on Aug. 25.
Since 2008, McIntosh has been with the Pima County Community College District in Tucson, Arizona, one of the largest multi-campus, multi-site community colleges in the United States. He started as director of technical services and has served for the past two years as vice chancellor for information technology. His accomplishments there included leading a comprehensive review and restructuring of information technology (IT) operations and services, championing emergency communications solutions and a new mobile website, and sponsoring a statewide information technology summit for Arizona community colleges.
At Ithaca College, McIntosh will be responsible for developing long- and short-term strategic plans to ensure that the institution’s IT capabilities, services, facilities, equipment and staff effectively enhance student education, support faculty instructional and research needs, support the college’s efforts to remain competitive for recruitment/enrollment activities and effectively engage with alumni. He will supervise the directors of enterprise application services, infrastructure and communication services, and technology and instructional services as well as the information security officer and manager of the IT project management office.

He is a leader who invests in his colleagues in order to ensure that the team comprises the right people, with the right skill sets, to move both the academic and administrative computing environment forward. I look forward to working collaboratively with him to position the college for even greater success in the future.”
McIntosh served for 25 years with the U.S. Air Force, where he held multiple leadership positions with management authority over IT departments. As a first sergeant and superintendent of a communications squadron, he supervised personnel comprising active duty military, civilians and contractors providing security administration, system administration, network administration, database administration, help desk and client support. His service included deployments to Iraq and Korea, and he led the planning and installation of a new command and control network at NORAD’s Cheyenne Mountain complex in Colorado.
“I appreciate the trust and confidence that have been vested in me to lead Ithaca’s information technology services department and enhance technology across the institution,” said McIntosh. “I have been impressed throughout the search process at the quality of individuals, their passion for the college and the warm welcome I received. I look forward to working closely with Ithaca’s students, faculty, staff and administration to develop a shared vision for technology at the college.”
McIntosh currently chairs the advisory board of the Center for Higher Education Chief Information Officer Studies. He has served in numerous regional and national leadership roles with EDUCAUSE, a nonprofit association advancing higher education through intelligent use of IT, and was honored with its inaugural Rising Star Award. He was also recognized with a number of awards for his Air Force service.
He holds an M.B.A. in information technology management from Trident University International, B.S. in management information systems from Bellevue University and A.A.S. in information systems technology from the Community College of the Air Force.
