Zack Ford '07, editor of ThinkProgress LGBT for the Center for American Progress - and former Ithaca College student body president - will be the featured speaker on Thursday October 11, 7 pm in Emerson Suites A, Campus Center. Zack's talk, "Can You Come Out without Enlisting in the Culture War?" will approach the challenge of invisible identities in a culture where we're impacted by our identities, regardless of whether we proactively engage with them.
Each year the Center for LGBT Education, Outreach, and Services hosts a featured speaker with ties to the campus or local community in commemoration of National Coming Out Day. In past years, highlighted speakers have included notable people in the fields of research, media, writing, the arts, advocacy and activism, and law and public policy.
He also co-hosts a popular podcast about LGBT issues called Queer and Queerer with activist and performance artist Peterson Toscano. A graduate of Ithaca College (with a B.M. in music education) and Iowa State University (M.Ed. in higher education), Zack is an accomplished pianist with a passion for social justice education.
At IC, Zack served as student body president, an orientation leader, and author of the "E-vents Newsletter." He won the campus's Harvey Milk Award for his achievements in LGBT outreach.
Following the talk, there will be a reception for members of the campus community and for LGBT and allied alumni visiting campus for Alumni Weekend. By coming together, this provides an opportunity for alumni and current students to meet and network.
