The American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), an Oklahoma-based education non-profit, selected Vocal Performance and Music Education graduate Steve Humes (’12) as one of nine undergraduate semi-finalists in its biennial choral conducting competition.
Humes submitted to the competition as a junior in 2011 under the guidance of IC Music Education Professor Janet Galván, who has assisted with many successful IC student submissions in the past two decades.
Initiated in 1993, this ACDA competition aims to acknowledge and reward outstanding graduate and undergraduate student conductors, encourage score preparation and advancement of conducting and rehearsal skills, and promote student activity at the ACDA National Conference.
Honored among a select group of young conductors, Humes will also receive a $200 stipend meant to assist with the registration cost of the organization’s National Conference.
Congratulations to Steve and his professors!
