The Sustainability Café on Monday, October 7th will feature Michelle Kortenaar presenting “Educating and Empowering Families to Use Science in Shaping a Sustainable Future.”  The Café will be held in Center for Natural Sciences Room 112 at 4:00PM, in conjunction with the Environmental Seminar. The Fall 2013 Sustainability Café/Environmental Seminar series is focused on the concept of “Citizens + Community = Healthy Environment.”

Michelle Kortenaar is the Director of Education for the Sciencenter, a hands-on museum that welcomes 100,000 guests annually. Ms. Kortenaar has three decades of experience teaching science at the middle- and high-school level, as well as in developing curriculum and educational programs. She also has a personal and professional commitment to environmental, social and economic sustainability. The mission of the Sciencenter is to inspire excitement for science through interactive exhibits and programs that engage, educate and empower.  Sustainability is one of the overarching guidelines for decision-making at the Sciencenter, which seeks to inspire a new generation of scientists to tackle issues associated with sustainability.

“Teachable edibles” – local, organic and/or seasonal snacks – for the Fall 2013 Sustainability Café series are being sponsored by Ithaca College Dining Services whose motto is “Sustainability – Healthy – Fresh.” Please bring your reusable mug and fill up at the nearest drinking fountain or provide your own beverage of choice.

This event is free and open to the public.
