Saxophonist/composer/arranger Mike Titlebaum, who currently serves as director of Jazz Studies at the Ithaca College School of Music, recently performed a concert of his arrangements and original compositions at the James Madison University School of Music in Harrisonburg, VA.
At the concert, Titlebaum conducted and performed solos with the JMU Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Band on his compositions “Ornetti,” “Solitude Etude,” “Round Chi-Town,” “Danca Latina,” and “Too Many Things” and his big band arrangements of “If I Were a Rich Man” (from Fiddler on the Roof) and “The Lady and the Tiger” (composed by the band They Might Be Giants).
During the 2-day residency, Titlebaum also gave master classes to JMU students on arranging, composition and jazz rhythm.
