Handwerker Gallery’s latest exhibition—Strange Bedfellows—will feature a series of events across the next four weeks, including an opening reception this Thursday, March 20, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. in the gallery’s main lobby.
On display at the Handwerker from March 17—April 11, Strange Bedfellows is a nationally traveling exhibition and catalogue exploring collaborative practice in queer art making. The exhibition is curated by San Francisco art historian Amy Cancelmo and is fiscally sponsored by the Queer Cultural Center (San Francisco).
This exhibition offers a multiplicity of perspective on the queer experience and a variety of strategies for collaboration including political organizing, empathy, intersubjective identity, appropriation, familial relations, and romantic partnership.
Following the curatorial talk Tuesday evening, and the opening reception this Thursday, Strange Bedfellows events will also feature artist talks with five of the exhibition artists, including Amos Mac, Chris Vargas, Greg Youmans, Sean Fader, and Tara Mateik.
All Handwerker Gallery events are free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 10.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m.; Thursday, 10.00 a.m. to 9.00 p.m.; and weekends, noon to 5.00 p.m.. The gallery is closed to the public on Tuesdays unless otherwise specified for an event but can accommodate group or class visits by appointment. Like us on Facebook!
