Want to eat some FREE pancakes topped with Maple Syrup produced right on Ithaca College's Natural Lands? Non Timber Forest Products is hosting an open house of its Sugar Bush on April 12 from 11:00-3:00, and we will be giving samples of our Maple Syrup!
When people think of products from a forest, they naturally think of lumber. However, other plant and animal life within the forest can be harvested in an ethical and sustainable way. These products, known as Non Timber Forest Products (NTFP), are the focus of our class, and we produce and sell three of these NTFPs: maple syrup, Italian oyster mushrooms, and honey. The open house on April 12 will be showcasing our sugar bush, where we collect and boil our sap to make syrup. This is the same syrup we will be offering as samples with pancakes! So if you are interested in NTFPs, enjoy eating locally grown maple syrup, and love spending some time in the woods, you should check out our open house! Come for all or some of it; a shuttle service will be provided every hour from the Park School of Communication, and it will take you the short drive to the sugar bush and back. Our syrup will be available for purchase by cash or check if you simply can't get enough of it! If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org. We are looking forward to seeing you there!
