Focus Asia Month Presents: Focus on Filipino Diaspora: (Im)migration of the Past and Present : Lorial Crowder, M.S.W.
Contributed by Melanie Chu on 04/07/2014
Come this Tuesday, April 8th, from 7-9pm in Clarke Lounge to listen to this year's Focus Asia Month key note speaker, Lorial Crowder, speak about immigration, the Filipino community and more!
In response to devastating Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, Filipino communities in the US and beyond have swiftly contributed to relief efforts. Exploring such subjects as immigration history, the portrait of contemporary Filipino-Americans, and the politics of ethnic/national identity, how has Typhoon Haiyan evoked a sense of surging nationalism in Filipino-Americans? How does tragedy lead to mobilization abroad? Come to this event to find out and more!
