The Institute for the International Education of Students (IES), is one of Ithaca College's primary affiliated study abroad program providers.  IES holds a photo contest each year featuring the best student photo submissions in three different categories.  This year, no fewer than 6 Ithaca College students' photos are featured in the contest! The Handwerker Gallery is pleased to present "How to Fail", an artist talk with Brody Burroughs from the Department of Art.  The event will occur on Thursday, February 9, at 6.00 p.m..  Burroughs will discuss the pitfalls of his development and professional career as a painter, as well as the importance of failure to the creative process.  

Students Active for Ending Rape is a pro-active organization on campus that strives to prevent violence and sexual assault through education and raising awareness.

Register now for the Tenth annual Women in Leadership Experience. WILE 2012 is a day long retreat on March 24, hosted by OSEMA.  Transportation, meals, and all retreat materials are provided at no cost to participants. The retreat offers a tradition of making connections and engaging in conversations women in leadership roles.

The School of Business is hosting a campus-wide, team-based, funded Sustainability Case Competition this Spring, where one team can walk away with $5,000.

FEBRUARY'S THEME: "LOVE IS IN THE AIR"
 

Associate Professor of Writing Fred Wilcox will be the guest on The Gary Null Show this Wednesday, February 8, at 12:30 EST, speaking about his book Scorched Earth. The show airs on WBAI (Pacifica) & WNYE in New York City. The show will be simulcast on the Progressive Radio Network (PRN), www.progressiveradionetwork.com. The following night, Thursday, February 9, at 7:30pm in Klingenstein Lounge, Professor Wilcox will read from the book and talk about the legacies of chemical warfare in Vietnam and on the toxic chemicals in our environment.

CPMA Professor Ron Jude to exhibit a selection from his Alpine Star project in Of the Ordinary at the Philadelphia Photo Arts Center from February 9th through April 15th.

Complimentary tickets to CANTUS, a 9 voice all-male vocal ensemble performing in Ford Hall on Saturday, February 11 at 8:15 will be available in the music office beginning Monday, February 6.  CANTUS will also present a workshop at 4pm that afternoon demonstrating their process as a chamber vocal ensemble, discussing issues such as vocal technique, balancing solo vs. ensemble singing, the elements of engaging performance as well as our collaborative process as a vocal ensemble without conductor.  This session is for Ithaca College students, please take advantage of it!

Grief and loss are experienced in many ways, e.g., death of a person or pet, loss of ability, opportunity or relationship.  Whether your loss is recent or some time has passed, this group will use expressive arts rituals (acknowledging the loss, being present in light of one’s loss, and one’s future journey with the loss) to help participants reflect on their loss in an intentional manner. 

Come and join with others on their journey with grief, where you'll get support and help create a supportive environment for others.  We ask that you bring a memento that represents your loss, (e.g., picture, object, etc.).  This drop-in support group meets three consecutive Tuesdays: 2/7, 2/14/ & 2/21, from4-5:00pm at CAPS.  The depth of personal exploration will deepen with each group, and participants are welcome to attend one or all group sessions.

The Handwerker Gallery is pleased to host a salon moderated by Amy Monticello, lecturer from the Department of Writing, taking place on Tuesday, February 7, at 4.00 p.m..  Following a presentation on her research, Monticello will moderate a relevant discussion on the significance of technology as a platform for expression in contemporary courtship, romance, and heartbreak.

 Christopher House, H&S predoctoral diversity fellow, will deliver a scholarly paper at the annual meeting of the International Communication Association on May 24, 2012 in Phoenix, Arizona.
