The Office of International Programs announced in Intercom on January 17 the deadlines for 2014-15 proposals for international travel with students led by faculty or staff. I urge you to review and adhere to those deadlines for submission as they are important to the thorough review of proposals by a number of offices. Proposals that are submitted after the deadline for Winter, Spring Break, or Summer experiences and proposals that are incomplete will no longer be able to move forward in the review process.

The Hammond Health Center has seen a sudden increase in visits from students suffering from symptoms of the flu (influenza). On Monday and Tuesday of this week, we have had 25 laboratory-confirmed cases of influenza. The CDC has reported that H1N1 (swine flu) influenza virus is circulating this season and that it may disproportionately affect young and middle-aged adults.

The James J Whalen Academic Symposium is looking to begin its 17th year with a creative twist. The steering committee is currently looking for designs that will be used for the 2015 Symposium. If selected, your creation will represent the College-wide Symposium for 2015, in which hundreds of students across campus participate.
Entries must be submitted as camera-ready files, preferably in high-resolution JPEG format. Entry files should work equally well for web presentation and for print media. Entry files should be designed in color, but should be equally effective in black-and-white.

We urge you to add or update your contact information when you see this page. Ithaca College is pleased to welcome Senator Kirsten Gillibrand to campus on Monday February 3, 2014 at 1:00pm.
The event will be held in Emerson B. The event is free and open to the public but please be advised that seating is limited.
Senator Gillibrand will deliver an address on "The American Opportunity Agenda" focusing on proposals to assist Women workers in gaining financial security by modernizing America's outdated workplace policies.
Senator Gillibrand was first sworn in as U.S. senator from New York in January 2009. Prior to her service in the Senate, she served in the U.S. House of Representatives, representing 10 counties in upstate New York's 20th congressional district.
She serves on the Senate agriculture, armed services and aging committees.

The chief privacy officers of Microsoft, Intel and Facebook respectively, headline an impressive speaker lineup for the National Cyber Security Alliance’s Data Privacy Day Kick Off event at the Pew Charitable Trusts in Washington, D.C. on January 28.
Privacy experts will discuss "A Competitive Advantage: Respecting Consumer Privacy in a Big Data World” and "Notice and Consent: Innovating a New Path Forward," as well as discuss the latest privacy research from Pew Research Center's Internet and American Life Project.

The Office of Employee & Organizational Development is pleased to once again offer Engaging Professionals at Ithaca College (EPIC), a competency-based certificate program for administrative office professionals. The program consists of eight, three-hour weekly sessions from February 19 - April 8, 2014. Each session is designed to provide individuals with highly engaging opportunities to increase core business knowledge and to develop critical professional skills. The program will build upon current knowledge and provide additional insight and perspective to help participants develop needed skills for continued success. Launched in May 2013, the IC Mentoring Network now has over 1,100 student, alumni, and IC community participants -- and the number is growing every day. Mentoring occurs in the form of online discussions hosted on LinkedIn.
Hundreds of discussions have been taking place, where students have been asking many questions and have received valuable insights and information from alumni and other IC community members as they plan for careers and life after college.
