Sarah Yengo has announced her retirement from Ithaca College, after 22 years, the last 14 in the H&S Dean’s Office. Sarah’s last day will be Friday, October 2. Please join us in wishing her well and in having a piece of cake (or two) by coming down to the dean’s office for an open house in Sarah’s honor, Thursday, October 1, between 2:00 and 4:00.

Please join me in congratulating Terry Martinez, Director for Student Engagement and Multicultural Affairs, on her recent appointment as the new Dean of Community Development and Multicultural Affairs/Associate Dean of Student Affairs at Columbia University. For the past six years Terry has done an outstanding job of promoting student engagement and multicultural affairs across the college. Terry’s last day at Ithaca College will be Friday, October 16th.

With the official retirement of Vicki Cameron, it brings us great pleasure to announce the arrival of our newest faculty member, Maki Inada.  Maki is a molecular biologist who is interested in understanding how genes are turned on and off.  She has been studying an unusual mechanism of gene regulation that is associated with some of the most highly conserved or preserved regions in the human genome among vertebrates. She uses both experimental and computational methods to dissect the molecular details of this mode of gene regulation.  This work was published in 2007 in Nature.

Nancy Reynolds, MSPH, joins the campus on August 24 as the new program director for health promotion and substance abuse prevention at Ithaca College. Nancy was selected after a national search to fill the position formerly held by Priscilla Quirk.
