The month of May means Memorial Day is coming, which marks the beginning of summer foods and cooking for most people. Barbequing is a popular part of summer meals, but it can wreak havoc on efforts towards healthy eating. Follow these tips to stay healthy all summer long and still enjoy your favorite barbequed foods!

  • Instead of always grilling meat, use more heart-healthy fish such as salmon or trout
  • Substitute hamburgers with skinless chicken breast or turkey burgers
  • Use low-fat cheese on burgers and sandwiches, and choose rolls that are 100% whole grain
  • Burned meat can mean consuming carcinogens – avoid overcooking, be sure to clean off any old charred food before using your grill again, and marinate food before cooking to reduce the presence of carcinogenic materials

The Work/Life Mission Series presents our last Eating On Campus Tour! At this Eating on Campus Tour, we will start at the Café @ the Park School to see its coffee, snack, and lunch options. We will also visit the Food Court and its vegetarian, Asian, grill, deli, and to-go meals, as well as La Vincita and its variety of paninis, flatbread pizzas, coffee, and frozen yogurt. In addition, we will stop by Grand Central Café to explore its smoothie, coffee, and snack offerings, as well as Campus Center Dining Hall where we will learn about its international, vegan, and grill options. Please join us!

The annual Recognition of Service celebration is a presidential event honoring Ithaca College's dedicated faculty, staff, and administrators who have completed 10 to 50+ years of service at the College, with individual recognition taking place in five-year intervals.

This year's event will be held on Thursday, May 1, in the Emerson Suites and will honor employees with anniversary dates of hire that fall between June 1, 2013, and May 31, 2014.  Employees who have retired or will retire during the 2013-2014 fiscal year will be especially honored at the celebration.
