ITS offers computing workshops every week on a variety of topics in the Technology Learning Center (101 Friends Hall) at no charge to all faculty, staff, and students. The TLC will be offering the following training sessions:

The latest versions of Microsoft Office are available to all current IC students, free of charge. Students can download and install Office on their personal Windows and Macintosh computers.

ITS is investigating problem reports from multiple people and areas about computers not connecting to the Internet properly. The problem is related to Bradford network software, which is not automatically registering college computers on the network as it should be.

The problem is affecting both Mac and Windows computers, in both campus offices and labs. Not all machines are affected.

Please be aware that many of the computers in the ITS Helpdesk loaner equipment pool are being replaced under the Technology Renewal program in the next week. As a result there will be very few loaner laptops available during the replacement period, June 26th-July 1st.

The annual campus electrical shutdown takes place on Saturday, May 31, 2014. ITS would like to remind everyone to unplug computers, printers, and other electrical devices prior to the start of the shutdown.

While ITS expects that all computing systems and services will remain online and accessible from off campus, there is the possibility of extended system downtime for any system or service due to unanticipated problems.

Special optical scanning procedures and schedules are in place for the processing of final exams during finals week.

Final exams will be processed Tuesday through Friday, May 6th – 9th and Monday, May 12th with a twenty-four hour turnaround time. Special procedures are in place after hours between 5pm-8pm Tuesday–Friday and again 5pm-8pm Monday. Regular optical scanning processing will resume on Tuesday, May 13, 2014. Please see last week’s Intercom article detailing the Optical Scanning finals week procedures. If you have questions about the optical scanning process, please visit our website or contact the ITS Help Desk at 274-1000, between 8am-5pm, Monday – Friday.

Mary Jo Watts of ITS has many years of teaching and research experience and is currently co-authoring a biographical book project SCUM: The Life and Times of Valerie Solanas.  She will demonstrate the key technologies and workflows she has been using to record  and catalog interviews as week as manage hundreds of digital assets acquired over a period of 8 years.    She will highlight technologies that not only help in managing work but transformed the way she approached research.
