ITS offers computing workshops every week on a variety of topics in the Technology Learning Center (101 Friends Hall) at no charge to all faculty, staff, and students. The TLC will be offering training on Taskstream, Sakai, Excel, PowerPioint, Photoshop, and Web Profile Manager from Monday, February 3 through Friday, February 7.

Juniper Network Connect for Macs (commonly used for remote access to the Mentor file server) is not compatible with OS X Mavericks, the latest Mac operating system. Instead, Mac users (OS 10.6 and above) should use Junos Pulse to connect to Mentor from off campus. Junos Pulse offers improvements over Network connect such as an easier connection process and simpler interface. Feedback from our testers has been excellent! Instructions for installing and configuring Junos Pulse can be found in this guide:

In October 2013 Apple released their latest operating system, OS X 10.9 Mavericks, as a free upgrade through the App Store for Mac OS 10.7 and 10.8 systems.

Categorize Calendar Events

Meetings and appointments on your calendar can be categorized and color-coded.  Simply right-click (control-click on a Mac) an event on your calendar and hover your mouse cursor over "categorize" in the popup menu.  You will then be presented with a list of categories that you can designate for the event.  These categories can be edited and customized.

Scheduling Assistant in Outlook Web App

When creating meetings on your calendar in the Outlook Web Application, you have access to a "Scheduling Assistant." Like the feature found in the Windows and Macintosh Outlook applications, the scheduling assistant in OWA allows you to add multiple people to a meeting and helps you quickly find an available time for everyone involved.

Add Holidays to Your Calendar

Your Outlook calendar can be configured to automatically display holidays. To do so:

Outlook 2010 (Windows)

  1. Open Outlook.
  2. Click File > Options > Calendar.
  3. Within the Calendar options window, click Add Holidays.
  4. An "Add Holidays to Calendar" window will appear.  Check the box next to each country whose holidays you'd like to include in your calendar.
  5. Click OK.

As part of a larger effort to improve the security of our digital information, ITS has developed a Quick Guide to using AES Crypt.  AES Crypt is a free program that allows you to encrypt and password protect files (e.g., Word documents, Excel Spreadsheet, etc.) to prevent unauthorized access and to maintain the integrity of the data.

Bring in your personal computer for diagnostic and repair services between 12pm – 5pm, January, 6 – 10, and January, 13 – 17. Printing Your Calendar

Your Outlook calendar can be viewed electronically on your computer, smartphone, and tablet, but sometimes you just need a hard copy.  You can print your calendar in the Outlook for Windows and Macintosh applications and the Outlook Web App.

When it comes to e-mail messages, most people are familiar with the basic options to reply, reply all, and forward the message.  But did you know you can reply to an e-mail message with a meeting invitation in Outlook 2010 for Windows and Outlook 2011 for Mac?

Please remember special optical scanning procedures and schedules are in place for the processing of final exams.

Final exams will be processed Monday through Friday, December 16th -20th with a twenty-four hour turnaround time. Special procedures are in place after hours between 5pm-8pm Monday –Friday. Regular optical scanning processing will resume on Thursday, January 2nd, 2014. Please see last week’s Intercom Article detailing the Optical Scanning finals week procedures. If you have questions about the optical scanning process, please visit our website or contact the ITS Help Desk at 274-1000, between 8am-5pm, Monday – Friday.

Beat the end of the semester rush! Bring in your personal computer for diagnostic and repair services before finals week for expedited service. The fixIT Shop, located in Friends 110, will be open regular hours until Friday, December 20, 2013 for computer pick-up. The last day to drop off computers for general repair service will be on Wednesday, December 18 at 7:00pm.
