Hubbard highlights strong weekend for Bombers
Thomas Pardee/The Ithacan
Members of the volleyball team dive for the ball during the Bomber Invitational this weekend. The Blue and Gold went 3–1 over the two-day competition.
The Ithaca volleyball team bounced back from last weekend’s
disappointing season-opening performance at the Ohio Northern
Invitational with a strong showing at the annual Bomber
Invitational.
The Blue and Gold defeated Clarkson College 3–0 Friday, but also
fell to Stevens Institute of Technology 3–1 later that day. On
Saturday, the Bombers defeated SUNY-Brockport 3–1 and Widener
College 3–0.
The team received solid performances from its strong junior
class, highlighted by Katie Hause and Amanda Hubbard. Hubbard
was recognized for her performance, as she was named to the all-
tournament team.
Hause and Hubbard both notched double-doubles in the team’s
final win of the tournament over Widener. It was Hubbard’s second
of the day and fifth overall of the season.
The Bombers play nothing but road matches for the better part of
the next three weeks, so having a strong showing on their home
court is important. With strong contributors like Hause and
Hubbard, the Blue and Gold will continue to dominate the Empire
8.
The next match for the volleyball team will take place at 7
p.m. Tuesday at Hartwick against the Hawks.
