Volleyball team struggles at NYU Invitational
After going 1–2 at the New York University Invitational over the
weekend, it’s back to the drawing board for the previously hot
volleyball team.
The Bombers defeated Elmira College in convincing fashion,
beating the Soaring Eagles 3–0. The first match saw excellent
performances from freshman Corinna Doctor, who led the team
with 13 assists, and juniors Amanda Hubbard and Jenna Yehl.
Hubbard led the South Hill squad with 20 kills, while Yehl recorded
11 assists. Juniors Andria Mynders and Katie Hause were also solid,
each notching seven kills.
Unfortunately, the second game of the tournament, against the
Coast Guard, was another story for the Blue and Gold. The Bombers
lost 3–1. But despite the loss, Ithaca received strong performances
from Doctor, who once again led the team with 31 assists, and
Hause, who led the team with 20 kills and 4 aces. Junior Mary
Schaefer led the team with 17 digs.
The Bombers’ final match of the tournament came against the
14th-ranked New York University Violets. While the Bombers
played the host team valiantly, they ultimately lost 3–1. Junior
Andrea Mynders had a team-high 14 kills along with 12 digs, while
Hause and Hubbard each registered 12 and 11 kills respectively.
The next match for the volleyball team will take place at 7
p.m. Tuesday at the Ben Light Gymnasium against the University of
Rochester.
