Ithaca Seminars are interdisciplinary liberal arts courses offered to all first year students at Ithaca College. We believe that enrolling in an Ithaca Seminar is an excellent way to start off your college career. Our faculty design these courses with special attention to the needs of first year students, and for exploratory students the faculty member is the academic advisor until your decide on a major. The courses are academically engaging with additional emphasis on transition to college issues. All seminars get involved in a plethora of activities and opportunities to introduce you to IC’s bounty of events, student groups, and student services.
The Goals of the Ithaca Seminar Program
o Offer first-year students an academic and intellectual interdisciplinary experience in a small class setting;
o Foster learning within an interactive seminar environment through exploration, engagement and reflection;
o Provide a classroom experience where students will learn to analyze and critically evaluate ideas, arguments, and points of view; and
o Connect learning with other aspects of academic and college life to help first year students make a successful transition to college.
In the Fall of 2013 Ithaca Seminars will be required for all incoming first year students at Ithaca College as part of the new Integrated Core Curriculum. For more information about the new Core, please click here
Please contact Shaianne Osterreich, Associate Director of the Integrated Core Curriculum, if you have any questions about the program.
