Exploratory Student Pre-Registration
Pre-registering for an Ithaca Seminar – Exploratory Students Only!
Why should exploratory students pre-register for an Ithaca Seminar?
- You will be instructed to select an Ithaca Seminar when constructing your fall schedule at summer Orientation.
- The Ithaca Seminar is the cornerstone of each exploratory student’s course schedule.
- Space is limited and students who pre-register have the greatest number of seminar options.
- All Ithaca Seminars meet general education designation and are used to fulfill core requirements.
- Ithaca Seminars provide another opportunity to explore various disciplines on campus.
What are the benefits of pre-registration for an Ithaca Seminar?
- If you change your mind about your original ICSM course selection, you will have the opportunity to select a different seminar when you meet with your adviser during summer orientation.
- Your Ithaca Seminar instructor serves as your academic adviser until you select a major. This means you will receive advising from a faculty member who has frequent contact with you and experience working with first-year students.
- Your seminar class will be limited to 25 first-semester students to ensure that you have a small and supportive group experience in your first year.
- Ithaca Seminars are structured to help students make a successful academic, social and personal transition to Ithaca College.
Does it matter what seminar I register for?
No, enrollment in an Ithaca Seminar will provide you with:
- Another course to explore a new academic area.
- A unique opportunity to experience college and coursework with only first-year students.
How do I pre-register for an Ithaca Seminar?
In mid-May, you will receive pre-registration information from the School of Humanities and Sciences Office of the Dean. You will find out which seminar you have been placed in when you meet with your summer orientation adviser.
