From the start of my Ithaca Seminar I realized that I was going to get a lot more out of it then I expected. I have always been interested in the different aspects of sustainability but had never taken a class about it and because of this seminar I fell in love with the subject. It really brought together a lot of topics that interested me into one class; sociology, biology, and economics. I really enjoyed that everyone was a freshman and that we had a big lecture and smaller group sessions combined into one class. I also loved all of our projects. We took a hike at buttermilk falls, had role playing games to learn how a societies can collapse, we even worked together to make a presentation to Ithaca College trying to convince IC to switch to 100% recycled paper and use doubled sided printing. As a result of what I learned from my Ithaca Seminar I am even going to go to Ecuador with one of my seminar teachers and with other students from the class. In Ecuador I will be creating a new curriculum so future students can take volunteer or study there with a sustainable focus. For me taking a Ithaca Seminar was a great choice that opened me up to a lot of new interests and opportunities and I would HIGHLY suggest it to anyone.
