Distance Education
by Marilyn Kinner and Pamela Mayberry

Ithaca College’s Gerontology Institute, in partnership with the Finger Lakes Geriatric Education Center and CNY Area Health Education Center, has a mission to develop ongoing education that contributes to improving the health of upstate New York’s older adults. This training program is called "Gerontology Depression." It explores common myths about depression in older adults; it seeks facts about the causes of depression, how it is diagnosed, and what treatment is appropriate.

We assisted in the video production and delivery of this forty minute training session. First, we recorded a video of the content expert, then we synchronized her slides, showing them alongside her on the screen. We also built a scrollable chapter list allowing the user to navigate through the entire presentation. Finally, we developed a multiple delivery strategy to reach the largest audience through the alternative technologies of Web, CD-ROM, DVD and VHS tape.
