Simulating Lab Procedures
Client: Marina Caillaud
Marina Caillaud, Assistant Professor in the Department
of Biology, had an idea to improve the effectiveness
of her pre-lab orientation. After tirelessly searching
for multimedia samples demonstrating how to properly
use a Micropipettor, she turned to ITS and asked if
they could build a custom training program for her.
Marina envisioned a series of interactive animations
that could simulate the use of a Micropipettor. Each
lab exercise is complex so when it comes time to perform
these procedures, students often forget the proper steps
and techniques Marina taught during their pre-lab orientation.
Unnecessary time is often spent during labs to re-explain
the techniques.
The solution is to simulate each lab procedure, step
by step, while demonstrating proper techniques. These
simulated animations build confidence for students to
perform the lab with greater efficiency.
