The Spine
by Mike Buck
Mike Buck, Clinical Associate Professor and Clinic
Director in the Department of Physical Therapy, currently
has students scattered across the country fulfilling
their internships in various physical therapy practice
settings. Upon their return to the classroom at mid-semester
Mike would typically spend the first class lecturing
about subjective examination of patients with spine
injuries. However, the potential of having each student
view the lecture in a self placed‚ video attracted
Mike to ISS.
Our solution was to video record Mike giving this presentation.
In post-production, we synchronized his lecture with
his bullet points and built video control buttons to
stop, play, rewind and fast-forward. We also included
a chapter list for students to navigate to different
sections of the presentation. Now students can view
the lecture prior to coming to lab sessions, which permits
more efficient use of time in lab for hands-on instruction
and experiences.
