Africa Through Film
Client: Peyi Soyinka-Airewele
Peyi Soyinka-Airewele, Assistant Professor in the Department
of Politics, is an avid user of instructional technology.
For example, it’s common to find Peyi in the Center
for Educational Technology busily adding rich, educational
content to her WebCT online course.
This past year, Peyi’s innovating use of technology
reached beyond the walls of Ithaca College. During her
Africa Through Film course, she invited her WebCT students
from Obafemi Awolowo University in Nigeria to come join
the class. For the first time, Ithaca College students
could interact with a dozen or so Nigerian students
while discussing films written and produced by African
filmmakers.
Ithaca students were also given the opportunity to ask
direct questions to the Nigerian content experts. For
example, several of Peyi’s students conducted
Web interviews with Nigerian scholars over the Internet.
The question and answer sessions were facilitated and
recorded by ITS and later posted to Peyi’s WebCT
course to be viewed by her students.
