Internet Access on Loaner Laptops
All ITS loaner laptops have the necessary hardware to connect to the
Internet via a wired or wireless connection. However, if you need Internet
access on a loaner laptop, please be aware of the following:
Using a Loaner Laptop on Campus
- ITS loaner laptops can connect to the Internet from most on-campus
location (such as classrooms, meeting rooms, offices, etc.).
- Different locations on campus require different network cables;
ask the Helpdesk which cable you'll need for your particular location.
- If possible, allow extra time when you plan to use an Internet
connection on-campus, in case you encounter any technical problems
(especially if you have never used a loaner laptop in the planned
location).
Using a Loaner Laptop away from Campus
- While most ITS loaner laptops have the necessary hardware (modem
and phone cable) to connect to the Internet from off-campus, these
laptops do NOT include any kind of Internet service account. You will
need to arrange for such service on your own, either through your
own Internet Service Provider, or using a "prepaid internet" service.
Conference Phone Compatibility
- The ITS loaner conference phones are NOT compatible with digital
phone jacks. The conference phones MUST be connected to an analog
phone jack. If you use a multi-line Dterm phone, it uses a digital
phone jack and you cannot connect the conference phones to that type
of jack. Most conference rooms and meeting spaces on campus are equipped
with analog jacks so the conference phones can be used in those areas.
Please contact the ITS Helpdesk if you have any questions about
using loaner equipment.
