Test Scoring

To submit a request for test scoring, a request form and a key sheet must be provided for each test.

Test Scoring

Every test scoring request must be accompanied by at least one key sheet (a master key). Key sheets designate to the system which answer or answers are correct for an item on a test. Weighting of questions or assigning point values on a test (standard/sub-test/assessment) can be done by using column P in the Special Codes field on key sheets. Exams may contain multiple answers per question. Multiple answers must be identified on all applicable key sheets as well as the request form.

Sub-Test

Sub-testing is a way to evaluate an entire test in separate sections. When using sub-tests a master key is needed of the entire test as well as individual keys per sub-test.

Assessment

An assessment is a way to evaluate a select set of questions from a test. When creating an assessment a master key is needed of the entire test as well as an assessment key for the portion being evaluated. A second test scoring request form is required for an assessment. The output will include two sets of reports; one for the entire exam and one for the select set of questions being evaluated.

Blue or Green Answer Sheets

Blue or green answer sheets are used by students to take a test and are used by instructors to develop answer keys for a test. It is important to note that each test scoring request may only contain either blue or green answer sheets, not a combination of both. The blue form supports up to 200 questions with 5 possible responses for each question (A – E). The green form supports up to 120 questions with 10 possible responses for each question (A – J).

Blue or Green Key Sheets

Key sheets must include the following:

  • Name field:
Master Key: Key last name first initial. (Key Weeks K)
Sub-Test Key: STA last name first initial. (STA Weeks K)
Assessment Key: Asmnt last name first initial. (Asmnt Weeks K)
  • Special Codes field: Column P can be used to assign points to questions.
  • Sex, Grade or Educ, Birthdate, Identification Number fields: Can be left blank.

Blue or Green Student Answer Sheets

Answer sheets must include the following:

  • Name field: Last name and first name of the student. (Weeks Kathy)
  • Identification Number field:
A unique ID beginning in column A, with two digits or more.
    No blank fields between numbers.
  • Sex, Grade or Educ, Birthdate, Special Codes fields: Can be left blank.

Charcoal Answer Sheets

Charcoal answer sheets are used by students by to bubble in their Netpass Username ID. This will enable the creation of an Excel file that can be imported into the Sakai Gradebook. Charcoal sheets are also used by instructors to develop answer keys for an exam given on the charcoal answer sheets. It is important to note that each test scoring request may contain only charcoal answer sheets for the entire exam and all Netpass Username ID numbers must be bubbled in as this is the only readable field by the scanner. There is a Name and Student ID# text box that will not be read by the scanner but can be used to identify student answer sheets by the Instructor. The charcoal form supports up to 200 questions with 5 possible responses for each question (A-E).

The charcoal form contains a field for points per question which can be used by the Instructors when developing key sheets for the exam.

The charcoal form also contains a version field. This can be used to identify multiple versions of an exam by instructor. The students should bubble in the corresponding bubble of their version of the exam on their student answer sheet (please note they are numeric). This field will not be recorded on the reports, it is an identification field only. The version will be reported to the instructors when requesting an ascii comma delimited text or numeric data file.

Charcoal Key Sheets

Key sheets must include the following:

  • Name field:
  • Master Key: Key last name first initial. (Key Weeks K)
  • Sub-Test Key: STA last name first initial. (STA Weeks K)
  • Assessment Key: Asmnt last name first initial. (Asmnt Weeks K)
  • Version can be designated with a numerical value for each section of an exam by instructor and students by bubbling the corresponding numerical version.
  • Points can be designated by the instructor only on the key sheet in the points field.

Charcoal Student Answer Sheets

Answer sheets must include the following:

  • Netpass Username ID field: Student’s Netpass Username ID (kweeks1) everything before @ithaca.edu
    • Used when requesting a compatible Sakai Gradebook file and a data file.
  • Name and Student ID text box: Last name and first name (identification purposes only)
  • Student ID #:  A unique ID number or the student id number.
  • Version: Bubble in the version of the exam as designated by the instructor.

Optional usage of this form:

  • Name field: Last name and first name of the student. (Weeks Kathy)
    • The Netpass Username ID field can also be used like the Name field on the standard blue or green bubble sheet. Students would bubble in their names (last name, spacing bubble, first name) in the Netpass Username ID field.
    • Note: If the charcoal form is used like the standard blue and green form, the Instructor cannot request the Sakai gradebook file. The compatible gradebook file can only be requested when using the Netpass Username ID format.
    • If the instructor chooses to use this as a standard form, the instructor will be able to request all other reports and data files. The names will be in lower case alpha.
