Apple Software

Apple OS X

OS X (pronounced "O S Ten") is the most recent version of the Macintosh operating system. Enhancements include the introduction of the Dock, streamlining the various menus, and expanded support for multiple users on one computer.

Mac Operating System Versions

Mac OS 10.8 (Mountain Lion) is the latest version of the Mac OS. Since college-owned computers are replaced every three years as part of the Technology Renewal program, there may be multiple versions of the Mac OS across college-owned computers (currently 10.5 - 10.8). ITS reviews the compatibility of college systems and applications (Homer, Parnassus, Sakai, access to the Mentor file servers, etc.) semi-annually with these operating systems. Operating system upgrades are generally not performed in between technology renewal cycles unless required for a particular business need.

(As the college does not have a site license for the Apple OS those areas wishing to upgrade in between Technology Renewal cycles must purchase Mac OS licensing for their areas using their department Procurement Card and ITS will install it.)
