By outsourcing email and calendar to MS LIve@edu, the institution assumes these risks: 

• We are one hundred percent dependent on the Internet for email and calendar services.
• We are dependent on a third party provider to assure data security.
• We are dependent on third party guarantees for uptime availability and reliability.

But, as we have recently experienced, there are reliability and performance risks associated with any email system.
