Skype

Skype is a voice over IP application (VOIP) that enables users to communicate voice and video over the Internet. Skype provides free audio conferencing between multiple parties and free video conferencing between two parties. Skype Premium, a pay service, provides multiparty video conferencing for up to ten participants. To access Skype, visit skype.com and download the Skype client for your platform. You will need to set up a free account to access Skype.

The Skype client must installed to use this service. Skype calls must be initiated from the Ithaca College campus to navigate our firewall.

Skype recommends the following minimum internet speed to ensure good quality:

  • Audio calls: 60kb/s
  • Medium quality video calls: 256kb/s
  • Higher quality video calls: 512kb/s
