Workshops
All workshops are offered to the entire campus community - faculty, staff, and students - and are free of charge. The location of the workshop is listed with the date and time of each session offered. Please be on time! Due to the hands-on nature of the workshops, persons who arrive over ten minutes late may not be admitted.ITS reserves the right to cancel a workshop or offer alternative methods of education if there is insufficient enrollment for any session offered. When possible, 24 hour notice will be given should the workshop be cancelled.

Acrobat: Introduction
Think PDF stands for Pretty Dull File? Wondered about the difference between Acrobat Reader and Acrobat Pro? Then come to Introduction to Acrobat. Learn the true power of Portable Document Format files: From editing and reviewing, to creating and combing, From turning web pages to PDFs and creating forms. This workshop will give you the tips and tricks to be an Acrobat master.
CET: Faculty Show and Share: Using Zotero to Help Students Organize Their Research
Faculty Show and Share is a new informal discussion series in the Center for Educational Technology. Each session will be a faculty member who shows how they've used a particular technology to address a learning goal. Minimal preparation is required because you just have to show, share, and discuss what you've done. Any instructor is encouraged to attend whether or not they are experienced with technology or not. All presentations will happen in the CET in Job 102. Registration is encouraged but not required.

ePortfolios: Student Web Sites
Come to this workshop and learn how to build your own personal Web site without having to worry about specialized language and code that can be so difficult to understand. Your Web site can include cool features such as photo galleries and blogs. But moreover, ePortfolios can be a great way for you to display your professional and academic integrity to potential employers and others.
Excel for Mac: Formulas I
Prerequisite: Excel for Mac: Introduction or equivalent experience. This workshop covers formulas in Excel 2008 for Macintosh. You will learn how to summarize data from a table by using IF functions, and retrieve data for analysis by using LOOKUP, VLOOKUP and HLOOKUP. After this workshop, you will be able to analyze and retrieve data from multiple worksheets, and nest lookup and reference functions to perform more complex calculations. Other functions covered: INDEX, MATCH, ISBLANK.
Excel for Mac: Introduction
This workshop covers basic functionality in Microsoft Excel for Macintosh, such as how to work with cells, charts, graphs, workbooks, basic formulas, formatting, page layout, and templates.
Macintosh: Best Practices for Using the Macintosh
The Best Practices for Mac workshop is designed to provide a streamlined approach for new and experienced Mac users to best utilize their computers by increasing efficiency and revealing some lesser-known Mac secrets. Here you'll discover how to access Mac tools quickly, how to save files efficiently, how to personalize your interface, and how to maintain your data and privacy. Although many of the features discussed in this workshop apply to older Mac operating systems, some features only apply to the Leopard and Snow Leopard operating systems.
Oracle Calendar: Introduction
This workshop covers viewing agendas other's agendas; creating meetings with individuals, groups, or resources; and managing tasks. Find out how to use access rights to decide what can be seen in your calendar. Learn how to manage calendar groups to make scheduling easier and faster. Before attending this workshop, please make sure that you have received an email confirming creation your Oracle Calendar account. This e-mail will contain your username and password which will be required at the workshop.
Parnassus Financials Session 1: Navigation
This training session is offered by Financial Services staff and will cover accessing and logging into Parnassus, navigating forms, screens, and various Parnassus responsibilities as well as the account structure and subcodes. New users needing to access Finance Applications, EZ Pay, Approving Credit Card Transactions and iProcurement responsibilities are required to attend before being given access to these responsibilities. Session 1 is excellent for users with Account Inquiry Only responsibility.

Photoshop: Creating Flyers
In this workshop, participants will learn how to use Photoshop's image editing tools to create eye-catching flyers with dynamic images. Prerequisite: "Photoshop: Introduction" or equivalent experience.

Photoshop is a powerful image-editing application from Adobe. This workshop will cover the basics of the program, including discussion on the work areas, various tools available, layers, and the transform functions.
Sakai: Introduction to Project Sites for Everyone
Sakai "project" sites may be created by any staff member, student, or faculty member at Ithaca College. In this session, participants will learn about the key features of the new Sakai collaboration and learning environment. There will be hands-on exercises that focus on creating project sites, managing files, and using selected tools for organization. This will be particularly useful for creating project sites for departmental, club, and organizational needs.
Sakai: Introduction to Sakai for Instructors
This is the first class to take to learn about Sakai; it is the prerequisite for all other Sakai classes (e.g., "Blackboard to Sakai"). In this session, instructors will learn about the key features of the new Sakai collaboration and learning environment. There will be hands-on exercises that focus on creating a course or project site, managing files, and using selected tools. Please bring a digital picture of yourself for your profile as well as your syllabus or a couple of files to add to your site. If you don't have files to upload yet, we'll have a few for you to use for practice.
Sakai: Moving Content from Blackboard to Sakai
This session is geared towards instructors who have course sites currently in Blackboard. Hands-on exercises will guide users through the process of transitioning content and activities from Blackboard to Sakai. The prerequisite for this class is "Sakai: Introduction to Sakai for Instructors" or equivalent experience.
Sakai: Structuring Course Content
In this training, instructors will learn how to use the Lesson Builder to structure their course content. Content may include a variety of media, such as text, images, and video. The prerequisite for this class is "Sakai: Introduction to Sakai for Instructors" or equivalent experience.
Turnitin Hybrid Workshop
This workshop will give you some hands on experience using the features of Turnitin, an online plagiarism detection tool. Turnitin has 3 key tools
- OriginalityCheck is the feature that compares submitted text against a large database of student papers, journals, and web content. The resulting originality report provieds a visual summary of matched text and its source. Turnitin reports can be helpful in teaching correct citation of sources and can also identify examples of potential plagiarism.
- GradeMark is a tool that allows for paperless grading of student assignments. Instructors can make comments, identify common mistakes, and create rubrics.
- PeerMark facilitates online peer review of student papers.
By signing up for this workshop, you'll be emailed instructions on setting up a Turnitin.com and prompted to submit a paper from the student point of view before the workshop begins. The workshop will then view what it is like from the instructor point of view and guide you through setting up your own Turnitin assignments.
