ETERNO FEMENINO by Rosario Castellanos

El Eterno Femenino (The Eternal Feminine) by the Mexican poet and playwright Rosario Castellanos (1925-1974) is regarded as a daring masterpiece of feminist literature when it was published shortly after her death in 1975. Thirty five years later, this funny, farcical exploration of gender roles in Mexican society still holds its power to amuse, amaze, and challenge its audience. The setting is surreal, the premise preposterous: a woman goes to a salon to have her hair done for her wedding, and ends up under the spell of a mind-altering hair dryer.
