Administrative history

"There shall be a Community Council to assist in developing policies and making decisions with regard to Ithaca College matters. The Community Council shall have authority over the academic units of the College only when an Ithaca College matter is involved." Governance Document, undated, in 1973 Community Council file, p. 2.

"Disputes between President and the Community Council go to the Board of Trustees agenda." ibid., p. 7.

"It is recommended that the Community Council be eliminated in any future governance structure." 4-21-1977 minutes, p. 8.

Scope and contents

The collection contains minutes, membership lists, committee reports, correspondence of the chairperson, general memos to and from the Community Council, by-laws. Topics covered include issues of College governance, a review of the "Berrigan affair," student unrest and student participation in College Governance.

Arrangement: arranged chronologically, with all types of records mixed together.

Volume: 2 document cases, approx. 10 linear inches.

Dates: 9-7-1972 to 4-21-1977.

Physical condition: Most records are mimeographs or dittos, with some carbon copies and master copies. Some blurring and bleeding of ditto and mimeo copies has already occurred.
