TURABIAN Samples for a Bibliography Ithaca College Library |

For more complete information,
consult the 6th edition of Kate Turabian's A Manual for Writers of Term Papers,
Theses, and Dissertations, especially the examples provided in Chapter 11.
Turabian, itself, is a simplified guide to the Chicago Manual of Style,
14th edition. For items that do not quite fit any one rule, combine rules.
The complete Turabian offers two documentation systems, footnote/bibliography
and parenthetical reference/reference list. On
this screen, however, you will only find Turabian examples of citations for
a bibliography using the footnote/bibliography
system (Type "B" in Chapter 11). This was the original Turabian style and is
used in the disciplines of history, other humanities, and some social sciences.
It is similar to, but not identical with, the Modern
Language Association style.
The following examples have not been approved or sanctioned by the University of Chicago. They are non-authorized best guesses.
NOTE: Kate Turabian was a dissertation secretary at the University of Chicago from 1930 to 1958. I suspect she was both much feared and revered. She died in 1987 at age ninety-four, several years before the publication of the sixth edition of the manual that bears her name.
