Public Use Policy

Ithaca College Library policies are designed to promote and support equitable and timely access to library materials for research, teaching, and lifelong learning by members of the College community. The Library welcomes visitors to use library materials from our print and microfilm collections and to request research and informational assistance. The Library reserves the right to restrict any individual from entering the Library or from using any of its materials, equipment, facilities or services.

Residents of Ithaca and surrounding communities are eligible to purchase a Community Borrower Card for a $50.00 annual fee after completing a registration form, in accordance with the Library's Circulation Policy. Ithaca College alumni, Longview staff and residents, and spouses/qualified domestic partners of Ithaca College employees may be issued a complimentary Community Borrower Card after completing a registration form, available at the Access Services Desk.

Community borrowers may borrow a total of 15 items. See the Circulation Policy for more information. Books and scores may be recalled by another patron after one week or by the Library staff at any time, if needed for placement on Library Reserves. Multimedia items may be borrowed for 4 hours for use in the Library only. Community borrowers are not eligible to request renewals or to borrow wireless laptop computers. Area residents who do not wish to become Community Borrowers may request to borrow books and scores from the Library's collection through the Interlibrary Loan department at their local public library.

Students from local educational institutions are welcome to use materials from the Library's print and microfilm collections, including reference materials, books, scores, periodicals, and newspapers. Visiting students may request to borrow books and scores from the Library's collection through the Interlibrary Loan department at their home institution or from a local public library.

Cell Phones and Personal Pagers

As a courtesy to all Library patrons, cell phones and personal pagers must be turned off prior to entering the library. The Library, in partnership with Information Technology Services, has recently launched a wireless computer network. Cell phones may interfere with wireless network connections, thereby reducing speed and/or dropping network connections.

Quiet Study Zone

The fifth floor of the Library is designated as a quiet study zone. Those patrons who wish to work in groups and converse should do so on the main through fourth floors of the Library.

Multimedia Materials

Use of Multimedia materials is restricted to Ithaca College faculty, students, staff, and those holding a Community Borrower card. Multimedia Services does not loan multimedia materials or audio-visual equipment to outside groups or agencies.

Archives and Special Collections

Archival materials in the Ithaca College Archives and Special Collections are available for research by request during posted office hours and by appointment. Archives and Special Collections materials may be subject to access and/or copying restrictions stipulated by the College or the depositor/donor.

Copiers

The Library offers self-service photocopiers and a microfilm reader for use by all patrons. The photocopiers accept ID Express and change. The microfilm reader creates pdf images via an e-mail client.
