Course Reserves Policy

Course Reserves are supplemental items related to assigned coursework. General Reserve items have a 2-hour loan period; Multimedia Reserve items have a 4-hour loan period. All Reserve items must be used in the library. Faculty may request to take reserve items out of the library or to have loan extensions when checking items out for classroom use. Items made available electronically can only be accessed by the Ithaca College community.

Submitting Your Reserve Lists

Library-Owned or Personal Materials

Note: Interlibrary loan as well as non-circulating items may not be placed on reserve.

Please submit your reserve list at least three weeks before the start of the next academic semester. During the semester, please allow up to one week for materials to be placed on reserve.

Personal materials may be placed on reserve as an alternative to purchasing items from department allocations. The library reserves the right to add a security device to personal materials, unless instructed otherwise. All items will be returned to you at the end of the semester.

Request the Purchase of New items

Orders should be submitted at least six weeks before they are needed. items are purchased from your department allocation in consultation with your library liaison.

Locations

All print reserve items with the exception of music scores will be housed at the Circulation Desk on the main floor of the library. All music scores and multimedia items on reserve will be housed at the Multimedia Services desk on the third floor.

Articles

All articles submitted for reserve will be processed as e-reserves. Please contact reserve@ithaca.edu if you have questions about e-reserve access for your students. The library will process your request when complete, accurate citation information is provided on the online Reserve Request form. If you would like help verifying a citation, please call the Reference Department at 274-3890. E-reserves are password protected. User names and passwords are sent via e-mail to instructors. Only the instructor teaching the course and the students enrolled in it will have access to those online course reserves. Please be aware that Library staff cannot provide user name and password information to students.

Copyright

Ithaca College Library Copyright Policies comply with the copyright law of 1976. Reserve requests, therefore, are for one term and must be submitted each semester. If student papers are to be placed on reserve, a signed release form from the student must accompany the paper at the time it is submitted for reserve.
