Multimedia Services
Multimedia Services houses the audio-visual collection. See our Circulation Policy for detailed descriptions of borrowing privileges and fines. Located to the right of the desk are sixteen carrels furnished with various audio and visual equipment and eight carrels with computers for patron use.
Searching the Catalog
All multimedia materials can be searched using the on line catalog. Use the Post Limit option to limit your search by Video Recordings or Sound Recordings. Ask a reference librarian for additional assistance.
Core Collection
Core materials are multimedia items that have been identified as curriculum materials necessary for instruction. Thus student use of these materials is limited to 4 hours in the library.
Multimedia Services: Reserves
Course Reserves are supplemental materials related to assigned coursework. Items on multimedia reserve must be used in the library for a 4 hour loan period. For more information, please refer to the Course Reserves policy.
Scheduling Visual Materials
Faculty are encouraged to submit a list of multimedia materials needed for classroom instruction at the beginning of each semester. While materials may be checked out on demand if available, advanced scheduling averts conflicts.
Students who wish to use multimedia materials in a class presentation, or for a screening sponsored by a campus organization, may also submit a scheduling request to avoid conflicts. A confirmation email will be sent upon approval.
Public Performance
The majority of the visual collection is designated for home viewing only (i.e. in a dorm room or personal residence). These titles may be used for classroom instruction if all the criteria for fair use have been met.
All other screenings require permission for the copyright owner for public performance rights. The online catalog includes notes for those titles that have been licensed for education screenings when no admission in charged.
Rentals/Previews
At times it may be necessary for instructors to arrange for a preview or rental based on the nature and cost of multimedia materials. It may be helpful to contact your library liaison as he/she can provide distribution information. However, all preview and rental requests must be initiated from the instructor's department office as the department is responsible for any financial obligations.
