Student Volunteers from Ithaca College Provide Music Performances for Senior Living Centers in the Ithaca Area

IC Students Perform at Senior Centers

During the year and especially during the winter holiday season, residents of local senior
living centers are entertained by musical performances by students from Ithaca College,
through the combined efforts of the Linden Center at the Gerontology Institute at Ithaca College,
and the School of Music.

Support for this program, entitled the "Voices for Creative Aging",
is provided through the Enduring Masters program which helps to coordinate these events.

These engagements, which are provided by the students at no cost
in the spirit of community service, are greatly anticipated and enjoyed by the residents.
   
Ithaca students, Rachel Seiden (oboe) and Jeff
Ward (bassoon)performed for residents and visitors,
playing some duets and some solo pieces, at
the Longview Holiday Bazaar Saturday, December 6.
Rachel is a junior oboe performance major, and Jeff is a super-senior bassoon education
and performance major. Both of them are from Virginia.
They performed Eugene Bozza's Contrastes II, Selections from Barret's Method for Oboe
and Selections from Fiddler on the Roof.

On Sunday, December 14,The IC Cello Choir performed at Longview,
celebrating the festive holiday season, with various cello works.

Performers,and Ithaca College student group,
BrassRoots performed at Kendal Senior residences, on December 10, 2008.
The members of the group are LJ Neal and Beverly Stokes on trumpet,
Liz Teucke on french horn, Allison Neal on trombone, and Tim Orton on
tuba. They played Christmas and holiday tunes, some of
which include Winter Wonderland, Let it Snow, Jingle Bells, March of
the Wooden Soldiers, My Favorite Things and Jingle Bell Rock.
