"Poet Laureate's Rounds: Workshops and Readings"
Assisted by grants from the New York State Council for the Arts and the Linden Center, Tompkins County Poet Laureate Paul Hamill will present a series of readings and creative writing workshops in venues accessible to seniors.
While some events are still to be scheduled, Hamill will present at Longview, Tompkins County Library, Lifelong, senior citizen club meetings, and senior housing facilities across Tompkins County. The Linden Center grant will allow Hamill to donate free copies of several of his publications to these venues, including a new chapbook (a pamphlet length collection) that includes his reflections on aging.
Hamill's published works include long poems, multipage narratives, meditations, monologues, a collection ("The Year of Blue Snow"), and three chapbooks: "Sainte Ariadne," "Last Things at Night," and "Winter Mind"). Hamill joined Ithaca College 20 years ago after teaching at Morehouse College, Indiana State University, and Temple University and serving as an administrator at the College of Charleston. He was the first board chair of the Community Arts Partnership of Tompkins County and is a founding board member of Ithaca City of Asylum.
