Conference Overview
The conference is designed for:
- K-12 teachers, school administrators, curriculum and department chairs,
technology/media specialists, and librarians
- BOCES administrators, instructional technology specialists, curriculum leaders
- Teacher education faculty and students
- Community educators working with K-12 education
- Media literacy trainers interested in observing the Project Look Sharp model
for application in their work with educators
Day 1 of this conference serves as an introduction to the concept of media
literacy and its integration into the K-12 curriculum, with an emphasis on building
essential critical thinking and communication skills. Attendees will have the
opportunity to hear some of the leaders in the field of media literacy education,
to preview curriculum-related media literacy materials and lesson plans, and
experience hands-on digital media production. By the end of the day, attendees
will understand what media literacy is, how it can be effectively integrated
into K-12 education across the curriculum, and why it is essential for schools
to do so in the 21st century. Day 1 will end with a Friday evening keynote speaker
(this event will be open to the public) who will present on hip hop and its
media representation. Day 2 will provide advanced workshops, panel discussions,
and media production, and is intended for those who have already attended this
conference or other media literacy workshops.
Conference Highlights
Resource Room and Video Showcase
A resource room will be open to all conference participants, containing
more than 200 media literacy materials (videos, curriculum kits, teacher guides,
CD-ROMS, books, etc.). These materials can be perused and previewed, and information
will be available for those interested in purchasing them. A number of videos
will also be showcased and discussed during concurrent workshop sessions.

Hands-on Media Training
This two-and-a-half hour workshop will provide a hands-on introduction to
basic digital media production (PowerPoint, digital movie). Participants will
be given the chance to work with digital images, providing a brief "taste"
of the excitement and possibilities for media production in the classroom.
The number of participants is limited in this workshop. Available both days.

Young Media Makers in Action
This special plenary session will bring together young adults who learned
media production as part of their high school education and current high school
media students. These young media makers will each showcase some of their
best work, and then participate in panel discussion about the influence of
media literacy education on their lives and their career. Available both days.

Find the Literacy in a Media Age Conference Day 1, Day 2, or Days 1 & 2
(there may be multiple pages).

—Choose either "I am a registered user," "I am a new user,"
or "I am a MyLearningPlan user" (for those in a district that subscribes
to MyLearningPlan).
Registered User, or MyLearningPlan user—Enter your email address and your
password.
New user—Enter your first name, last name and email address.
On next page, create an account. Depending on whether you are a certificate
holder or not, you may or may not have to fill in your SS#. This field is a
requirement for certifcate holders (many teachers' certificates are linked to
their SS#, adn this is how your professional development/contact/enrichment
hours are tracked for salary raises/compliance etc.) The site is secure. If
you are not a certificate holder, you may choose to put in your SS# or a different
number, or you may click that you are not a certificate holder.
—Fill in all information.
—Click on "create account."
—Click on the "update and continue" oval. The next page will
show the Payment summary. It will indicate a Registration Fee amount. Under
"select a payment method," click on the small circle next to whichever
method you will be using for payment.
—Click on the "Next" box.

on the "I agree" box under "Terms and Conditions."
—Click
on the "Print Enrollment Form" and "sumbit" to print a copy
of the form. If it doesn't print, do a print screen (on a PC hit shift &
print screen; on a Mac hit shift, apple & numeral 3 simultaneously).

You will not be fully enrolled in Literacy in a Media Age until TST BOCES has
received payment, a copy of the District's cross contract, or a copy of their
purchase order (PO). You will receive an email confirmation when TST BOCES has
received the necessary documents, and you will then be fully enrolled. Please
