Graphic Standards

Combined with innovative design, a strong, clear, and recognizable presentation of the College can go a long way toward communicating effectively with our various audiences, from students to alumni to donors.

The College's graphic standards are designed to ensure that our publications strike that balance between creativity and consistency, in order to effectively communicate what makes us unique -- the active combination of discovery and performance that is fostered by a blend of liberal arts and professional education.

Academic departments are part of the College; they are the pieces that together make up Ithaca College. Brand recognition is created by the accumulation of brand usage, so it is appropriate that all of the departments of the College use the same general guidelines in their publications. By following these branding guidelines, the College's academic and administrative divisions together create a strong, clear, and recognizable presentation of the College to its various audiences.

Quick Guide to the Graphic Standards

The complete graphic standards are available in PDF format (see sidebar), but as a quick introduction we offer the following points:

The Ithaca College Logo

  • The Ithaca College logo has been designed specially to communicate our unique identity.
  • To create a sense of harmony and unity in all College communications, we use Adobe Bodoni and the more contemporary, sans serif font Din as the two base font families.
  • The logo should be placed prominently on the front of all materials promoting the College. All the letters of the word "Ithaca" should be in the same color and the logo should be clean and readable.
  • The logo should not be typeset or reproduced by means other than with a TIFF, EPS, or other file provided by the Office of Marketing Communications.
  • The logo must not be altered and must always be used horizontally.
  • In print publications the logo must have a clear space surrounding it to preserve its character and balance. This clear space establishes the importance of the logo relative to other elements on the page.
  • In all cases the prominence of the logo should be a main consideration in the design.

The Ithaca College Seal

  • The College seal is reserved for official academic purposes.
  • The College seal should not be substituted for the College logo.

The Athletic Logo

  • The athletic logo should be used only in conjunction with marketing materials directly related to the activities of the athletics office and teams.
  • The athletic logo should not be used in conjunction with the College logo or seal.
