Michael Galván is professor of music at the Ithaca College School of Music, where he has taught since 1982. He is principal clarinet of the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra under Music Director Heiichiro Ohyama, and has been featured as a soloist with the orchestra, performing Copland and Mozart. Prior to his appointment at Ithaca College, Galván taught at the University of Illinois and in the New Mexico public schools.

Galván has performed with the Syracuse Symphony, the Glimmerglass Opera, the Binghamton Symphony, and the Champaign-Urbana Symphony, as well as with the Ariadne String Quartet, the New York Woodwind Quintet, and the Illinois Woodwind Quintet. He is the clarinetist of one of the nation's oldest woodwind quintets, the Ithaca Wind Quintet. Galván has presented concerto, recital, and chamber music performances from New York, Boston and Pittsburg to Tallahasee, Albuquerque and Tempe, including ClarinetFest '95, the International Double Reed Society, the National Flute Association, Music Educators National Conference, public radio and the premiere of Karel Husa's Cayuga Lake: Memories at Lincoln Center. He appears often as a clinician and guest artist at universities and schools across the country.

Educated at the University of Illinois, Northwestern University and the University of New Mexico, Galván's teachers included Howard Klug, Larry Combs and Floyd Williams. Additionally he studied with Anthony Gigliotti and Stanley Hasty and coached chamber music with Marcel Moyse. A leader with the International Clarinet Association, Galván chaired the 1995 and 1996 I.C.A. High School Solo Competition. He is the Northeast Regional Chair of the I.C.A. Galván's former students may be found teaching, performing, and studying in major graduate schools across the country.
