Particularly important to the Junior class is its involvement at the Whalen Symposium.  Students in this year are expected to each give a presentation involving the knowledge he or she has gained on international travel regarding the respective areas of social justive each has chosen to study.  Along with this, scholars in this year still work to fulfill the same requirements as had in years past.

Taylor Desir

Apart from his studies, Taylor spends his time volunteering with the Circle of Recovery.  This program is designed to assist students at the Ithaca High School who are at risk of academic or disciplinary difficulty.  Although the program began as a project to assist males, it recently expanded to aid all students of historically underrepresented groups who require aid according to the mission statement of the Circle of Recovery.

Taylor is also the president of the African-Latino Society on campus.  This group, established in 1969, works to promote the economical, cultural, political, and social welfare for minority students.

Elizabeth Espada

As a speech language pathology major, Elizabeth has worked with the National Student Speech Language and Hearing Association, a club recognized by the college.  The group works to promote awareness of speech language pathology and audiology.  Monthly professional meetings, social and fund-raising activities, and an annual conference occur to accomplish the goals set forth by the organization.

Elizabeth has also spent time volunteering with programs within the local community such as Big Brother Big Sister and B.J.M. Elementary school.  Through this work, Elizabeth has been able to foster the academic and social development of several young children in the Ithaca area.
