Our Program

Requirements by Year

First Year

  • Participate in a First Year Seminar with a capstone study trip on the Civil Rights Trail
  • Participate in a course in the Center for the Study of Culture, Race and Ethnicity
  • Reside and participate in H.O.M.E. Program
  • Participate in Civil Rights Tour during fall break

Sophomore Year

  • Begin developing a learning proposal (independent research project) for future research combining academic, social justice, and social policy topics
  • Participate in a weekly seminar
  • Participate in international travel during winter break
  • Identify a service project to work with
  • Begin to participate in leadership building

Junior Year

  • Participate in a weekly seminar
  • Participate in international travel during winter break
  • Begin working on career development
  • Continue service learning and leadership development
  • Present learning proposal at Annual Whalen Symposium

Senior Year

  • Participate in a weekly seminar
  • Participate in international travel during winter break
  • Present at lecture series for the Center for the Study of Culture, Race and Ethnicity
  • Secure graduate study, professional study, and or employment

Scholars are required to maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.3.
All scholars will create and develop a Leadership Portfolio that they will contribute to each semester.
