Brian DeMaris (opera/musical theatre) has accepted a position on the faculty of the Aspen Music Festival and School in Colorado, where he will be a vocal coach.  He will also continue with the Opera Theater of St. Louis.

Richard Faria (clarinet) was reviewed in Fanfare magazine for his performance of Stephen Hartke’s The Horse with the Lavender Eye: "The performance here is of the very highest standard. The clarinetist, Richard Faria, a professor at New York’s Ithaca College, stands out in his supreme command of his instrument, his clear identification with the projection of disjunct lines, and his sheer control."  Faria also participated in Ensemble X performances including the 60th birthday concert for Steven Stucky at Cornell, gave a solo recital at the Garth Newel Music Center during their summer festival, and joined IC faculty colleagues in a summer trio performance at Cornell’s Schwartz Center. He participated in a new interpretation of music for the Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival, and a trio performance in New Bedford (MA). Faria also recently served as soloist with both the Ithaca College Concert Band and Chamber Orchestra.

This fall, Janet Galván (women’s chorale, chorus, music education) conducted the Alaska all state mixed chorus, the Mad River Festival in Dayton, Ohio, the collegiate/high school festival at the University of Wisconsin/Milwaukee, and the North Carolina Treble Festival. She will take the Ithaca College Women's Chorale to ACDA Eastern Region in February. In the spring she will conduct the Hawaii Choral Festival and the New Hampshire Mixed Chorus All-State Chorus. In the summer of 2010, she will be the guest conductor for the Rhapsody Choral Festival which will be in Prague, Salzburg, and Vienna.

Nathan Hess (piano) judged the New York State Music Teachers National Association competitions for Junior Piano and Senior Piano at the fall state convention, held at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester.  He will present a recital and piano masterclass at the Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center. In February he will play a solo piano recital at Mansfield University in Mansfield, PA, as part of their "Keyed Up" Recital Series.

Dan Isbell (music education) spoke the 6th International Symposium on the Sociology of Music Education. University of Limerick, Ireland. He presented a study of undergraduate music student socialization with Dr. Josh Russell, University of Hartford. His dissertation was picked up by VDM Publishing House, Ltd. and published as a book. He also completed a chapter in the recently published book: Collaborative Action for Change: Selected proceedings from the 2007 symposium on music teacher education.

Emily Mason (music education) presented a research paper at the 2010 Biennial Music Educator National Conference on Research in Music Education and Music Teacher Education in Anaheim, California. She presented a paper titled Preservice Teachers' Perceptions of and Preference for Kodaly or Orff Methodologies Used in Teaching Elementary General Music.

Sally Lamb McCune (composition) was among five local artists receiving $1,000 each as part of the “CAP Stimulus Awards for Individual Artists.” These special grants from the Community Arts Partnership of Tompkins County (CAP) were created to encourage local artists to not only advance their own careers, but also take part in re-invigorating the local economy. The creation of these awards came fresh on the heels of news that CAP had received one of the 27 American Recovery & Reinvestment Act Grant Awards through the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA)

Jean Radice (organ) coordinated a joint performance of Bach’s Goldberg Variations, performing along with Mark A. Radice, Mary Holzhauer, M.M. '08, '09, Josh Oxford, '07, and Elena Nezhdanova M.M.’10

Deborah Rifkin (theory) presented at two conferences this semester: “A New Taxonomy for Learning in the Music Classroom,” International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning” and “The Post-Tonal Quick Switch in the Aural-Skills Classroom,” The Musical Ear, Indiana University. She also joined the editorial board for Music Theory Online, the electronic journal of the Society for Music Theory.

Lee Goodhew Romm (bassoon) attended the Amherst Early Music Festival in July and will play baroque bassoon in two performances at Cornell in the spring. On modern bassoon she recently performed the Strauss Duo Concertino for Clarinet and Bassoon, Strings and Harp with the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra.

Nicholas Walker (double bass) played a series of jazz festivals across Canada, including Ottawa, Toronto, Winnipeg, Vancouver, Victoria, and Montreal. He also played in Allentown, Syracuse, and many performances around Ithaca. He was featured in three sessions at the International Society of Bassists conference: Close Encounters with Historical Double Basses; and Nicholas Walker: It’s Not About Rules - Playing Baroque transcriptions on the Modern Double Bass, plus a concert Frescobaldi and the music of the viola bastarda. He did early and contemporary music performances at Cornell, as well as a concert with Tango Da Camara at the Guitar Foundation of America conference at Ithaca College.
