Alexa Yunes received her bachelor’s degree in Music Education and Composition from Texas A&M University-Kingsville, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude, and her master’s degree in Early Childhood Development from Concordia University in Portland, Oregon. She received numerous awards throughout high school and college. Ms. Yunes is also an active composer and has been commissioned to write pieces for a variety of ensembles throughout the country. Ms. Yunes is currently the assistant band director at Morris Middle School in McAllen, Texas. Prior to beginning her formal career as an educator, she ran leadership seminars for high school students in South Texas, taught at the Pre-K level at the Mark Cisneros Youth Center in Kingsville, Texas, taught private lessons to students of all ages, and worked as a marching band and woodwind consultant for various middle schools and high schools around the South Texas. As a music educator, Ms. Yunes strives to bring constructivism into the music classroom, and has a large interest in brain development and the psychological aspects of learning and motivation. She hopes to use this research in order to make a positive impact on children’s lives.
