Jennifer Haywood holds bachelor's and master's degrees in music education/performance, and conducting from Ithaca College and the PhD from the University of Toronto. Dr. Haywood began her professional music career in the public schools and continues to mentor student teachers in the public schools as the Ithaca College Junior Vocal Student Teaching Program Coordinator. She also conducts public school age high school students in the Young Men's Chorus of Ithaca and upper elementary and middle school age students in the Choraliers of the Ithaca Children's Choir. Dr. Haywood currently serves as Associate Professor of Music Education at Ithaca College where she teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in music education and conducting and where she conducts the Ithaca College/Longview Intergenerational Choir and the Ithaca College Graduate Program Concert Choir.

Dr. Haywood is committed to working with musicians of all ages and to including all people in music. A few of the outreach ensembles she collaborates with include: the Greater Ithaca Activities Center 5 & 6 year old Program, The Women's Chorale of 171 Cedar in Corning, and the Ithaca Community Chorus' Voices Multicultural Chorus. As previously mentioned, she also continues in her fifteenth year on the faculty of the Ithaca Children's Choir.

Dr. Haywood has been active as conductor and clinician at regional, state, and international presentations. Haywood's current research focuses on intergenerational choirs and including individuals with special needs in choirs. She has been published in General Music Today, The Canadian Music Educator, and Exeter University's Research in Music Education Journal. Dr. Haywood also contributed three repertoire resource guides to the 2008 book Teaching Music Through Performance in Choir, Volume 2. In July of 2008, Dr. Haywood co-presented a session on Intergenerational Ensembles in Bologna, Italy for the International Society of Music Education Conference.
