Gilbert Kalish Coaches and Performs at IC
As the Robert G. Boehmler Foundation artist for 2009–10, famed pianist, collaborator, and pedagogue Gilbert Kalish performed Ludwig van Beethoven’s Piano Concerto no. 4 in G Major with the Ithaca College Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Jeffery Meyer, coached several chamber ensembles, and presented master classes. He made two separate visits to campus, in November and December. He worked with singers and pianists on art song in one session, composers in another, solo pianists in another, and several chamber music coachings, including 20th-century repertoire such as Schoenberg’s Pierrot Lunaire.
