FALL 2011 OPERA/MT AUDITION INFORMATION
OPERA WORKSHOP AUDITIONS
Opera Workshop will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:10pm-5:00pm in Beeler. The course is open to Juniors and Seniors only. Auditions will occur during class time on August 30th and September 1st. Students should sign up for an audition on the opera bulletin board. You are encouraged to bring your own pianist. You should be prepared to sing one aria, but are encouraged to offer more than one selection.
MUSICAL THEATER PRODUCTION AND MUSICAL THEATER WORKSHOP AUDITIONS
Auditions are open to the campus community. All are welcome. Auditions occur the week of August 28th prior to the start of classes. Every auditionee must sign-up for his or her time slot prior to 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 28th. The exact times for auditions will be posted on the callboard on the ground floor of Dillingham, next to Dillingham 006. Auditionees will need to sign-up for one audition time slot as well as one dance audition time slot.
Audition Requirements: ONE contemporary monologue of your choosing no longer than 1 minute, ONE legit 16 bar cut in the style of the show that shows line and range. To be considered for the musical, auditionees will have to do an additional dance audition on Monday, August 29th. There is no preparation necessary for the dance auditions.
MAIN-STAGE OPERA AUDITIONS
MAGIC FLUTE 2011
Auditions for Mozart’s Magic Flute will take place on September 16th, 17th, and 18th. A signup sheet will be posted on Thursday September 8th at 5:00pm on the opera bulletin board in the school of music (Whalen studio 2306)
Seniors and Graduate Students should prepare one complete aria in English or German. All other students should prepare one aria or art song in English or German. NOTE: In extenuating circumstances, certain exceptions to the audition requirements can be made. Please speak to your studio teacher or Brian DeMaris if you have questions or concerns.
All students are encouraged to familiarize themselves with any roles for which they and their teachers feel they are suited. A copy of the piano-vocal score has been placed on reserve in the library.
