Tango de Cámara is a unique chamber ensemble whose music ranges from the Baroque to the Contemporary. All members of the trio are on the faculty of the Ithaca College School of Music and are noted soloists in their own fields.
Their concerts demonstrate expertise in historical styles as well as inventiveness in more modern idioms. This diversity of repertoire, coupled with their skills as master teachers, gives this group both performance and pedagogical expertise rarely seen in other such ensembles.
Steven Mauk (saxophones) Pablo Cohen (guitar, cavaquinho, quarto) and Nicholas Walker (double bass, viola da gamba) form this special ensemble that winds through all the sonic atmospheres of an eclectic, exiting repertoire and affords a rare opportunity to listen to this music in all its virtuosity, complexity and drama. The music and the dramatic performances by this trio, involves styles and supplementary instruments that range from a viola da gamba to cavaquinho, and from the “pandeiro” to an Irish pipe. With an outstanding solo career and international tours, Tango de Cámara members Mauk, Walker and Cohen are often hailed by the critics for their versatility, artistry and wit. Definitely an audience favorite.
