Upcoming Events
The Ithaca College Trombone Troupe was invited to perform at this year’s Eastern Trombone Workshop, held at Ft. Myers Army Base in Washington, D.C. from March 17-19, 2011. The United States Army Band (Pershing’s Own) sponsors the annual event. Thirty members of the Troupe will make the journey to Washington D.C. and will perform a concert at 3:00 PM on Saturday, March 19, 2011 In Bruker Hall. ETW attracts trombonists from all over the east coast and this year’s event will also feature performances by the trombone ensembles from Eastman, Penn State University and Northern Colorado University in addition to the Ithaca College Trombone Troupe. The workshop is free and open to the public.
On Sunday, April 17, 2011 the Ithaca College Trombone Troupe will host the 23rd Annual Frühling Posaunen. The title, which translates into “Spring Trombones,” was suggested by Dr. John Marcellus, Professor of Trombone at the Eastman School of Music. He along with Mr. Mark Lusk, Professor of Trombone at Penn State University, and Dr. Harold Reynolds, Professor of Trombone at Ithaca College, met in 1989 in order to establish this annual event to help promote the trombone. The three core schools alternate hosting the annual event every third year. The host school decides on a guest artist or clinician, and whether or not other trombone ensembles will be invited to participate. This year we have invited Massimo La Rosa, Principal Trombone of the Cleveland Orchestra, to do a master class for all the trombonists in attendance. That will take place at 11:00 AM in the Ford Hall auditorium and is open to the public. In addition to the trombone ensembles from Eastman, Penn State, and Ithaca, this year’s event will also include the trombone choirs from SUNY-Potsdam, and Boston University. Each ensemble will present a 15-20 minute concert and the event will conclude with a massed trombone choir finale with approximately 120 trombonists on the Ford Hall stage. The concert will begin at 3:00 PM and is free and open to the public.
Easter Sunday, April 24, 2011 will find members of the Ithaca College Trombone Troupe performing at First Presbyterian Church in Ithaca, NY with organist Jean Radice. The Troupe will provide music for the Prelude, Offertory, and Postlude. For more information regarding the time of the service please call the church office.
A trombone octet made up of members of the Trombone Troupe will also perform Easter music for two services at Lansing Methodist Church on April 24, 2011 with organist Sharon Powell. This will mark the ninth successive year that Troupe members have performed at Lansing Methodist for Easter services.
The Trombone Troupe will once again play for the Graduate Student diploma ceremony to be held in the Hill Center during Commencement week. This is the third year that the Troupe has provided music for this occasion. Erik Kibelsbeck will conduct the ensemble in prelude and postlude musical selections.
