Band & Wind Ensemble Alumni Reunion
JUNE 18-19, 2010
The first-ever reunion of former members of Ithaca College bands or wind ensemble took place on Friday and Saturday, June 18-19, 2010.
An impressive 188 alumni ranging over 59 years of Ithaca bands from 1951-2010 came together for the first time with really only one thing in common, and that was the extraordinary Ithaca College ensemble experience. Alumni from 24 states, including from as far away as Salt Lake City; Glendale, Arizona; and Seattle, Washington came for two days of music making and reminiscing.
Mark Fonder, one of the organizers and current conductor of the Ithaca Concert Band said, “From the first notes of Reed's Armenian Dances it was clear this was going to be a truly special occasion. Over two days, the group rehearsed for seven hours and learned to play remarkably well with one another. They overcame the sheer size of the 188-piece ensemble by careful listening and a stewardship to the importance of the internal pulse. It was great fun to conduct this group and they were beautifully responsive to conducting gestures.”
